Lighting Designer

Lighting Designer

Light has been part of my life through different paths: music, theatre and architecture. Over the years, these three worlds have come together and shaped the way I see and design space.

I started with music, experiencing live performance from the inside. I then moved into theatre, first working on the technical side and later exploring it as a creative space. I studied architecture and design, learning to understand space, proportions, geometry and the relationship between materials and perception.

This mix of experiences has shaped my approach to lighting design.

I have been working with light for more than thirty years, designing spaces, atmospheres and visual experiences for live entertainment, music, events and large productions.

For me, light is not just about making things visible. It can shape a space, change the way we see it, guide our attention, follow the music and transform the atmosphere of a place.

My approach combines careful planning with research and experimentation. Every project starts from its context and identity, looking for a visual language that fits the project rather than following a fixed formula.

Over the years, I have designed and directed lighting for shows, tours, events and productions of many different scales, working with light and darkness, colour and images, sound, movement, materials and technology.

I look for a balance between impact and simplicity, technical complexity and clarity, technology and emotion.

Light reveals, but it also hides.
It is presence and absence.
It is architecture without adding anything.

This is where my work comes together: somewhere between technique and vision.

For me, lighting design means creating an experience — shaping a space and transforming it for the duration of a show, an event or an image.

A journey that started many years ago and is still evolving.

My Approach

From the first brief to the final event, I believe every project needs a clear creative vision and a strong understanding of its main idea. The first step is to define the visual story and turn it into a lighting design that is clear and easy to understand, both for the client and for the team responsible for bringing it to life.

I personally follow the project through to the installation, making sure the original idea remains consistent even when changes and adjustments are needed during the build. When necessary, I also put together and coordinate teams of experienced professionals to support the production throughout the different stages of the project.

When my role includes show design, I coordinate the design of the whole stage environment: set, structures, lighting, layout, video content, effects, automation and stage movement. Bringing these elements together from the beginning helps create a consistent vision and gives each moment of the show its own identity.

A clear design process is what turns an idea into something real. This is where light becomes material, space and language.

To create something distinctive, a strong creative vision needs to be supported by a high level of programming and execution.

When the event allows it, I still operate the lighting console myself. This is the moment when the whole creative process becomes a live show — the most direct and, even today, the most exciting part of my work.
